Overview

Established in the seventeenth century as a medicinal herb garden for the royal court, the Jardin des Plantes has bloomed into France’s premier botanic gardens and a beautiful place to stop and smell the roses during every season. Visitors can follow the squawks and squeaks to the menagerie to meet the resident animals, then tackle the twists and turns of the Labyrinth, or learn about botany, evolution and palaeontology in the garden’s museums. During the warmer months the Rose Gardens will be blooming with colour, while in the winter it’s a good idea to head to the Mexican hothouse or the beautiful Art-Deco Winter Garden to warm up amongst the plants.
