Overview

At the Kangaroo Sanctuary, the Kangaroo Dundee (Brolga) and his team, are dedicated to the rehabilitation and protection of orphaned baby and adult kangaroos. At the Sanctuary, the team rescue, rehabilitate and release orphaned baby kangaroos back into the wild. The kangaroos raised by wildlife carers from infancy, which cannot be released, inhabit the wilds of the 188 acre wildlife refuge. Families can visit the refuge throughout the year on guided sunset tours, led by Brolga and the other wonderful sanctuary tour guides.

The outback Kangaroo Sanctuary is a wonderful place for families to visit, and an important way for kids to learn about and develop a loving appreciation for animals. After all, the sanctuary’s motto is Animal Come First. Through their tours, they aim to raise awareness about the plight of Australia’s kangaroos, many orphaned by highway accidents, and to foster kindness toward animals around the world. The documentary series, Kangaroo Dundee, is based on Brolga, the Kangaroo Sanctuary, and their dedicated work with our special native kangaroos.

Good to knows

  • The Sanctuary can only be visited on a pre-booked guided sunset tour, which includes bus transfer from Alice Springs (or transfers from accommodation). Booking in advance is recommended, as the tours sell out fast.
